Lovers and Other Lunatics by Eugenia Riley

Love Spell

(The Time of Your Life)

From the back cover:  Teresa Phelps had heard of being crazy in love.  But Charles Everett seemed just plain mad.  Her handsome kidnapper unnerved her with his charm and flabbergasted her with his accusations.  He acted under the misguided belief that she held the key to finding buried treasure.  But all Tess felt she could unearth was one oddball after another.

One minute holding her at gunpoint, the next holding her hostage with his tender kisses, Charles’s actions resembled those of a lunatic, but his body aroused thoughts of a lover.  And while Charles helped to fend off her dastardly and dangerous pursuers, Tess wondered if he had her best interests at heart–or was she just a pawn in his quest for riches?  As the madcap misadventures ensured, Tess strove to dig up the truth.  Who was the enigmatic Englishman?  What was he after?  And most important, in the hunt for hidden riches was the ultimate prize true love?

This is a wonderful story.  I have to say…the name of the book is soooo appropriate!  The characters are very unique…and I loved it!  Our heroine, Theresa (Tess) Phelps is what I’d call a nerdy type.  She’s very smart…living out in the middle of nowhere trying to complete her research for her dissertation on the analysis of tidal cycles and barrier island erosion.  The story starts out with a bang…she’s kidnapped by a James Bond look alike with an English accent who takes her by gunpoint from a shopping mall and forces her to go with him.  She finds out his name is Charles Everett.  She knows he must be a total lunatic because of the reason he’s taking her with him.  He tells her he knows she’s having an affair with his father, and he’s going to keep her under wraps for a month to keep her away from his father.  He says he doesn’t want her to ruin his parent’s marriage.  She tells this crazy handsome man that she has no idea who he’s talking about…but he does not believe her.  Who is this crazy man…really?  She’s terrified thinking he’s going to kill her so she attempts an escape.  On her way back to her rented home, she meets “the bug man” as I call him…what a hilarious character!  You don’t know if he’s a good guy, a bad guy, or just a really strange guy.  When she arrives home her home has been ransacked…someone was looking for something, but she has no idea what it was.  In one day, she gets kidnapped and her home is ransacked, she has to find out why.  This story has a hot romance, will make you laugh out loud, and make you feel sad for Tess with all that’s happened to her.  Eugenia Riley created great characters that keep your interest throughout the entire book.  I won’t tell you “who done it…or why”, but I will tell you to read this one…it’s unique!

Because I really liked this unique story, I give it 3 cocktails!
