Who is Pamela Sweet?
It’s occurred to me that nowhere on this blog do we Texty Ladies talk about our lives in any great detail. We’ve got a little (tiny to be more accurate) blurb on our About page but that’s about it. You may have gleaned some information about us from a few of our posts but probably not enough to get the full picture. Well, today is your lucky day! (ha ha) Instead of a post on writing or art, I thought I’d fill you in a bit on who I am and what I’ve been up to lately.
I was married almost three years ago to a younger man I met on the Internet. This man is my junior by 11+ years. You might wonder if that has ever become an issue between us and my answer would be no. The age difference usually only surfaces when someone has mistaken me for his mother. Oh, the horror! My husband sometimes looks younger than his years so I guess I don’t blame those making the assumption, however, I won’t deny that it hurts a bit when it happens. We end up laughing it off and then move on. My husband has been a constant source of love and support and I will be forever grateful we’ve been brought together. He shares my love of words, art and music and I know his work will one day be wowing the world!
Before meeting my husband, I was a single mother for many years. It was just the three of us, my son, our cat Indya, and me. Those years were not easy for many reasons but I am grateful to have had that experience. It has proven to me how strong I can be. It has also shown me that my son is courageous and has the most incredible humor and imagination.
I work as a legal assistant at a mid-size law firm for my day job. The Firm is incredible and I am content to be working there until my big break comes when all the planets align and I get that six-figure advance for a book series. I happen to excel at multitasking and switch to “automatic” when faced with deadlines and pressure. I’m no longer in the real estate field but the many years of massive overtime, enormous pressure and varied cast of co-workers and clients has taught me much.
My love for the written word has been with me for as long as I can remember. I have to thank my first grade teacher for giving me a book to read when I completed my daily school work. It told stories of fantastical creatures and was a rich breeding ground for dreaming up stories of my own. Years later (I believe during my middle school years), my sister-in-law decided to part with some of her books. She brought over a grocery bag filled with romance novels, and into book one, I became hooked. My romance with romance was born.
I tried my hand at writing poetry and stories while in high school but was never serious enough about it to do much more than dabble. Over the following years, I’d think and dream and hope to some day devote my time to writing. When I turned 43, I decided that enough was enough. No more putting it off out of fear or whatever other excuse I could dream up. If I was ever to become a writer, I had to do something about it now. So, to ease myself into the writing world, I decided to try my hand at blogging, figuring I could write about almost anything and possibly teach myself to write on a consistent basis. I became hooked on creating blogs and journals, creating a MySpace and changing the look of it over and over and over again. I’d write here and there but soon became more hooked on site creation and design than writing. While discovering my love for graphic design and site creation was an important discovery to make, I really didn’t want it to crowd out my reason for starting to blog in the first place… so, I am now rededicating a good portion of my extra time to writing.
I’ve dabbled with writing poetry, flash fiction, memoir and more and as I try different things, I’m learning what comes natural to me and what doesn’t. Poetry and short fiction are easier for me at the moment so I’m going with the flow, however, I’ve recently been given the gift of what I think is a fabulous idea for a novel so I’m going to give it a go. It will require a good amount of research but I’ve never minded that. My idea may be more than my skill level will allow at the moment but I’m going to give it a try and see what happens. Fear will no longer rule my thoughts when it comes to writing!
There you go. I’ve given you a smidgen of info all about me. Now, I’d like to hear more about you. Is there anything you’d like to share with us about your life, your thoughts, or your dreams?
~ Pamela

Very nice knowing, you Pamela!
It’s great when we can peak into other people’s lives.
Thanks Pamela. It’s great to learn more about you. We blog but don’t really learn a lot about each other. I think this is a great idea.
It’s been great meeting both of you and others here at Texty Ladies and elsewhere on the Net. Sometimes, I wish we could just get together somewhere and have a good chat.
Pamela, your story is so touching. I think life’s challenges do make us stronger and it certainly gives us depth as writers. I doubt this novel idea is beyond your skill level–but every new story should stretch you in some way. The cool thing is you’re allowing yourself to go beyond your comfort zone. Yay, you!
you always seemed kind of mysterious to me! nice to get the bigger picture! i experienced the same thing with blogs — i was addicted to creating them and starting them. i think i had around 8 at one time, plus blogs i set up for other people.
Thank you for the encouragement, Jacquie!
Hi, Anne! Thank for reading my post. Yes, this blogging addiction is ridiculous. I’ve just overhauled two of them and think I should give up on the others. Speaking of blogs, I’m off to check out yours…
