Donald, Genie, Lucy...your poems are spectacular! Look at how completely different they turned out while using the same prompt. I love the telling images these poems create. Thank you so much for sharing them.

I think I might just write another one...

Very nice everyone! Mine has no period theme this time - you're sobbing, I know.

My shadow wears
A hard hat,
A flak jacket,
A bullet-proof bodysuit.
And she knows
The order of things.
Her hair is like--
It doesn’t matter what it’s like--
My shadow is a man
Whose wrinkles and fat and frowns
Don’t diminish her
Or her options.

My shadow wears
a silver cape
a scarf draped
on beaded nape
and she knows
the order of things
Her hair is like
the phoenix fire
My shadow is
a bell-topped spire
tolling desire
in her dark wake.

Hi all hope all are doing great :)

My shadow wears
The ghost of my grandfather’s overalls
Slick red bandanna looped around his neck
Big handmade straw hat denying the rays of the sun
And he knows
The order of things
His hair is like
Grey smoke in the morning mist
My shadow is my spirit
A seed planted in hard ground
Carved out in virgin soil
Where no shadow ever crossed
