From the back cover: A Mischievous Charade…

Harriet, Duchess of Berrow, is tired of her title and the responsibilities that comes along with it. Enough with proper tea parties and elegant balls; what Harrie really wants is to attend an outrageous soiree where she can unleash her wildest whims and desires. But to attend such an event–especially if the event in question is Lord Justinian Strange’s rollicking fete, filled with noble rogues and rotters, risque ladies and illicit lovers–would be certain scandal. That’s why she must disguise herself…”

Looking forward to a night of uninhibited pleasure, Lord Strange is shocked to discover that beneath the clothes of a no-good rake is the most beautiful woman in the room. Why is a woman like her risking her reputation at his notorious affair? And can he possible entice her to stay…forever?

Our heroine in this story is Harriet. She’s a Duchess and is bored stiff. She has to present the proper manners, look, cloths, and actions. She hates it. She is a widow and is now ready to experience some of what life has to offer. She doesn’t want to be a duchess any more. Her friends, the Duchess of Cosway and the Duke of Villiers, talked Harriet into coming with them to spend some time at a true rake and rascal’s home–Lord Justinian Strange…”Jem” as his friends call him. Jem’s home is full of actors, dancers (clothing optional), scientists, and others who come to party–eat, drink and whatever/whenever. There are no rules at this house and everyone loves it. So, Harriet decides to go. She wanted excitement. She knew she couldn’t go as herself, a duchess, so the three of them come up with a disguise. Harriet goes as a young man. Her name is Mr. Cope. Villiers introduces her as his young relative from the country whom lived with his mother…explaining his more effeminate ways. It’s hilarious. Harriet loves the breeches and other male clothing Villiers has made for her. She feels such a freedom playing a man. She can come and go as she pleases and ride a horse astride and not sidesaddle. Total freedom. She doesn’t want it to end. When she meets Jem. She notices how handsome he is. She couldn’t help staring and had to pull her eyes away…since she is now a man and didn’t want any attention drawn to herself for staring at him. Villiers has Jem keep an eye on his young relative while he recovers from an illness. Jem decided to make a man out of Cope. He starts teaching Cope to fence, race horses, and how to play various games with the other men at the house. Jem starts to have feelings toward Mr. Cope and it sickens him. He tries not to notice Cope’s curly hair, slender fingers, and blue eyes. He figures he has to take a mistress soon…because he has never had feelings for a man before and doesn’t like it one bit. Harriet loves deceiving everyone. The young ladies staying at the house try to get Cope into bed….if they only knew! As Harriet/Cope spends time with Jem, she falls hard for him and his little daughter. Things start to get very complicated–and hilarious! There is so much to this story that I can’t give away. It is so good. There is a hot romance, love, tears, and every emotion in between. A great detailed story which you will enjoy reading to the end!

Because this story is so unique and has great characters, I give this story 3 cocktails!

Jove Books Historical Romance

From the first page: Dear Reader: The Sherbrooke family saga continues with James and Jason Sherbrooke, identical male twins who look exactly like their beautiful Aunt Melissande, and not at all like their father, the earl, which riles him to no end.

James, twenty-eight minutes older than his brother, is the heir. He is solid, is James. He’s a student of astronomy, rides like a centaur, and unlike his brother, Jason, enjoys learning the ropes of managing his father’s estate. He no longer sows excessive wild oats, as his neighbor, Corrie Tybourne-Barrett, a brat he’s known since she was three years old, looks forward to doing since she turned eighteen. When she nearly shoves him off a cliff, sneering all the while, James hauls off and spanks her.

A promising start. Then, unfortunately, the earl, Douglas Sherbrooke, is shot at. This leads to Georges Cadoudal, a Frenchman in the employ of the English War Ministry with whom Douglas had dealings some years before. But Cadoudal died in 1815, fifteen years earlier. Were their children who might want revenge against Douglas? But the question is why: Georges and Douglas parted friends–at least Douglas believed that they had.

Adventures compounded; Corrie hurls herself into the thick of things. As for Jason, he swims like a fish, loves horses, wants to start a stud farm, still sows more oats than a man should be allowed, but finally meets a girl who stops him in his tracks. And then what happens?

You will have to read the book to find out. I hope you enjoy yourself. The characters are rich, colorful, and a hoot to boot. The mystery will confound you.

Do let me know what you think. Write me at P.O. Box 17, Mill Valley, CA 94942 or e-mail me at readmoi@aol.com. Keep an eye on my website at www.CatherineCoulter.com.

This book has multiple stories within it. You won’t get bored for a minute, there’s simply too much going on. Starting out with the twin Sherbrook brothers, James and Jason, who are described as having the most beautiful faces ever seen and bodies to match (yum!…I’ve never met anyone as handsome as the hunks on the book cover!). This story will make you smile to yourself, laugh out loud, and shock you when you least suspect it. There are multiple hot romances to keep you reading and also a murder mystery from the past and an attempted murder in the present. Reading through all the wonderful dialog and romance with these colorful characters is “a hoot” as Catherine Coulter puts it. Corrie is my favorite character and you’ll see why–her dialog alone is worth reading this book. I have to admit, I could not guess ”who done it”…and was surprised in the end. I usually can figure out a book after the first chapter or two, but not this one. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery and yummy romance.

Because I think this book has it all – good guys, bad guys, sweethearts, bitches, mystery and romance, I give this book 4 cocktails!

From the inside cover: “A story that combines whimsy and mystery with a touch of the paranormal. The strangely gifted hero is unusual and particularly intriguing because he has an unexpected and appealing streak of vulnerability for all his strength and power. Readers will be waiting for this one.: Library Journal

From the back cover: Readers can always count on New York Times bestselling author Jayne Ann Krentz for nonstop entertainment. Now, in this “cheerful escapist package combining sex and mystery” (Cosmopolitan), she delivers a winning story of romance and suspense.

Molly Abberwick, trustee of her late father’s foundation, is furious with her new consultant, scientist-philosopher Dr. Harry Stratton Trevelyan. Harry is brilliant, sexy, and absolutely impossible–and his outrageous suggestion of a scientifically inspired affair with her is positively the last straw…Besides, Molly’s got a much more serious problem; she’s become the target of a stalker whose sinister pranks are swiftly escalating into violence. Only Harry, of all people, seems to comprehend the true nature of the threats against his alluring boss. As a dangerous predator closes in on Molly, the enigmatic Dr. Harry seizes the day to reveal himself in a totally unexpected light.

I really liked this story. The heroine, Molly Abberwick, and the hero, Dr. Harry Stratton Trevelyan, are both very unique. They are so different from the rest of the world, that they are destined to be together. Together they fit. Paranormal feelings play a role in this story and make it really interesting. He starts out simply wanting to have an affair with his client, Molly, but it doesn’t quite work out that way. Molly “gets” him. She understands his world so much more than he thought any woman ever could. The descriptive hot, erotic lovemaking keeps their affair in flames on the pages of this book. When Molly suddenly has a stalker who tries to harm her, Harry becomes protective of her and starts an investigation as to who the stalker could be. The story is very detailed as to their relationship, their different lives, and the not-so-normal world they live in. Jayne Ann Krentz’ writing keeps you interested from the first word to the last.

Because I will read more of Jayne Ann Krentz’ work, I give this book 3 cocktails!

From the back cover:

As the most notorious rakehell in Regency London, Lord Damien Sinclair–the dangerously handsome “Lord Sin”– sought only his own pleasure, until his beloved younger sister, Olivia, was injured and her reputation ruined during a forbidden tryst. Now Damien will do anything to destroy the young nobleman guilty of hurting Olivia…And Vanessa Wyndham will protect her foolish brother at all costs, even if it means entering into an illicit bargain. When Vanessa offers to act as a companion to the invalid Olivia, Damien agrees–on one scandalous condition: He’ll forgive her brother’s debt if Vanessa agrees to become his mistress.

And so the seduction begins. But once the affair has ended, will they escape with their hearts intact?

The characters in this story are so interesting — I believe every woman I know has dated a guy like Lord Sin of this story at least once. We all hope we’re the one he’ll fall madly in love with and settle down with–but how often does that happen? He’s the good looking, hot lover who goes through women like water–throwing them away like used matches. When Lord Sin’s sister, Olivia, falls down the stairs and becomes an invalid, he swears to ruin her lover, Aubrey, whom she was planning to run away with. When he meets Aubrey’s sister, Vanessa, he wants her for himself. He then starts planning his seduction of her. He asked her to be mistress to him and a companion to his invalid sister as repayment for her brothers actions. Lord Sin woos Vanessa–not touching her until she begs him to. This story is full of steamy moments between them which kept me reading!

A double love story and excellent writing makes me give this story 3 cocktails.

For some reason, when I think of the 80’s, I always feel good. That’s the decade I graduated from high school, started smoking (have long since quit), began to work hard and party even harder. Since I was out dancing at the clubs six out of seven nights a week, music was a huge part of my life. I was no longer solely a rock & roll chick, for I had discovered punk rock and funk, old skool funk, that is, new wave, R&B, jazz and the blues. Whenever I hear a song from back in the day, a smile spreads across my face and my hips and shoulders start to wiggle. For some reason, I’ve been hearing these songs more often and I thought I’d share them with you.

To find a good mix, I thought I’d go through the alphabet and pick one or two musicians or groups for each letter. Why not? I tried not to pick the obvious choice for each one but something most of you will remember. I realize I’m missing a lot of great and influential musicians here so please be kind in your assessment of my choices. Have a listen and let me know what some of your favorites are from that decade. Please accept my apologies for the poor quality of some of these videos.

A = After the Fire – Der Kommissar

D = Terence Trent D’Arby – Sign Your Name or Dance Little Sister

When my friends and I would listen to the Beatles, we’d, of course, have to pick which one we would be. I always chose George. He seemed like a kindred spirit. I devoured every book I could find on the Beatles, specially ordered “I, Me, Mine” from a bookseller and discovered I enjoyed sitar music. John was the Beatle I was most fascinated with. He seemed brilliant, egotistical, searching and incomprehensible all in one. I was never sure at any given time how, exactly, I felt about him. But, I remember that morning when I woke up to the DJ announcing that John was dead. It felt so personal. Like my own JFK.

I = INXS - Need You Tonight or Chris Isaak – You Owe Me Some Kind of Love

I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn for the first and last time a few weeks before he died. It was at an outdoor concert on a beautiful summer night. The crowd had that “we are one” vibe going as Stevie Ray poured out his soul through his music. I was pregnant at the time and remember thinking that I hoped my child would someday bring that kind of beauty to the world.
